Fall is Coming

Monday evenings, September  16 - December 2 at 6:45 p.m. at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church.

LADIES: FALL IS COMING! With all its particular challenges and joys.  The women of WOW are  launching into our deepest study yet~ Isaiah, the greatest of the major Biblical Prophets.

Some bullet points as to “why ISAIAH” and what it will bring to your spiritual life/home/walk of faith:

  • Themes of Isaiah are the Holiness & Sovereignty of God ~ are there areas where you need a “higher view”  of God’s careful watchcare over ALL your life events? (check ISA 40)...
  • Impatience & Anxiety are both addressed by the fact that Our Sovereign God is IN CONTROL (Isa 46:10)
  • COMFORT is another theme of Isaiah~ does your heart need comforting by the Great Shepherd?
  • Immoral lifestyle, governments & societies abound in 2019… how shall we view God’s plan for ALL nations? Isaiah addresses this..

Just to whet your appetite! In addition, WOW focuses on fellowship w/other sisters in Christ from a variety of denominations, and small-group accountability.

Here’s our Year Verse, Class~ can you commit it to memory?

Trust in the LORD Forever, for the Lord GOD is an everlasting rock.
YOUR NAME & RENOWN ARE THE DESIRE OF OUR HEARTS !
—Isaiah 26:3,8

WOW RESUMES Monday evening, Sept 16 at 6:45 p.m. for refreshments & registration. We will meet Monday evenings until December 2.

We meet at Good Shepherd Presbyterian, 3307 Rea Road, Charlotte, NC. We end by 8:30 p.m.

Happy New Year!!!

WOMEN OF THE WORD BLOG, 2019

"My Times are in YOUR HANDS"…. Psalm 31:15 &
"He Knows the End from the Beginning"   Isa 46:10

Can you think of any better duo of verses for the year ahead than these? Surely with Our God going ahead of us, we can have no anxiety.

2018 was a difficult year for me personally, with the loss of 2 of my 4 “lifelong” friends of 35 years, both unexpectedly. Yet each time, I had SUCH strong assurance that God was completely in control~ utterly persuaded that “underneath are the everlasting arms.” I wish this same mindset would surround me all the time!

This winter our class will study I Peter, the only New Testament book written specifically about suffering (hint: it never answers the ‘why?’ question, however…)

You are warmly invited to join us, beginning Feb 4, at Good Shepherd Presbyterian on Rea Road in Charlotte. We meet Monday evenings at 7-8:30.

Great books about Joy in Trials: Here’s a sampling~
Andrew Murray, A Believer’s Secret of Living Like Christ
Tim Keller, Walking With God in Times of Suffering
Elisabeth Elliot, A Path Through Suffering
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship
Philip Yancey, Reaching for the Invisible God
C. S. Lewis, The Problem of Pain

WOW Is a group of women from more than 15 churches in the Charlotte area, committed to the Lordship of Christ in ALL things, and studying His Word in-depth as a group~ in small group settings, at home, and through lecture.

Please join us one Monday Evening this Winter/Spring!

God bless your endeavors in 2019 ! We don’t go into this year alone, and that makes ALL the difference! …

Warmly,

AKLB

Spring/Summer 2018

“Thy Word was found and I did eat it, and it became for me the Joy and Rejoicing of my heart..”  Psalmist David

STRIVE to Enter His Rest… Hebrews 4:11

These 2 verses above represent the conundrum of my recent years ; the devotion of my time to the first, seemed to preclude my realization of the second! Aaah!

And now the Lord has asked me to “step back” from the longer teaching year I’ve chosen for 35 years (on & off) of teaching.

What  a relief it was to find out that “strive” in Hebrew means  "Wrestle!” At last, the secret meaning…we must wrestle to enter His rest! (Type A’s, rejoice!)

So sometimes, in laying aside the “Good” things, we may enjoy the “BEST” things!

What I’ve learned form so many years of teaching a certain way (& from so many mentors!) is that the discipline of study is ALWAYS rewarded with more secrets, and insights.
His Word is an inexhaustible Font of learning, wisdom, and knowledge (and beyond that, revelation!)

A favorite counselor of mine says: “you can’t out give God!” and so I’m recommending a strenuous personal regimen of WORD ~ morning, noon, and nite.

Paul said “woe to me if, after teaching others, I myself am unable to complete the race!” And that’s a great model.

I wish you a summer that is NOT a drought, but is rich with meaning, His Word, and prayer. (Jer. 17: “Blessed is the one who fears the Lord? They will be like a fruit-bearing tree in a year of drought..” )

I enclose the booklist to spur you on to “greater things!” And may the wrestling you do with Him over REST produce NEW disciplines of grace.

In Him,

Dr A
